However, a cool and wet spring and winter ensured that the vines did not suffer from the heat. After the early harvest at the end of August, the grapes were treated in the traditional manner: trodden and fermented in granite lagares at the winery. After fortification, the base wine is transported to Porto, or rather Vila Nova de Gaia, where it matures at a constant, mild temperature and high humidity.
