This exceptional white port, in the style of a high-quality tawny, is pressed from grapes of 60-year-old vines in a field blend.
The grapes from the more than 30 (!) varieties planted there really pack a punch. They are made into a truly great wine, whose price, given the quality offered, seems almost ridiculously low.
Abandonado is the highest and most remote vineyard of Quinta da Gaivosa, offering breathtaking views over the Douro region.
The wine has power and a taut structure, but also astonishing freshness and an animating character. To achieve this, the winery primarily focuses on high minerality, without neglecting the fruitiness of the wine.

The summer of 2019 in the Douro region was extremely hot and dry. However, a cool and wet spring and winter ensured that the vines did not suffer from the heat. After the early harvest at the end of August, the grapes were treated in the traditional manner: trodden and fermented in granite lagares at the winery. After fortification, the base wine is transported to Porto, or rather Vila Nova de Gaia, where it matures at a constant, mild temperature and high humidity. The result is an enormously complex Vintage Port with aromas of lavender, rosemary, blueberries, black and red cherries, and a long, mocha-dominated finish.
